Buy American-Made Products

What Does It Mean to Be an American?

Americans have a duty to support their country and their fellow Americans. Buying imported goods does not support our fellow Americans because money and jobs are sent overseas, usually to a third-world country in Asia. Many imported goods are produced by sweatshops where there are no unions and fair wages are just a dream for those workers. Buying those imported goods shows your support for sweatshops and unfair labor and trade practices, and it takes jobs from your fellow Americans.

There are other reasons to buy American made products other than patriotism or fair trade issues. Every time you buy an American made product, you are helping the global environment. Domestic products are substantially more environmentally friendly than imported products. Domestic products don't need to travel across oceans for weeks aboard massive cargo ships which consume thousands of gallons of diesel fuel.

In addition, American made products are produced in efficient modern facilities which consume electrical power that is generated by fuels that are as clean as possible. Our coal-fired electrical generators are among the cleanest in the world, burning low-sulfur coal. By contrast, China's coal-fired plants burn high-sulfur coal so they produce vastly more emissions than our coal plants. We also use a fair amount of zero emission nuclear power, hydrodynamic power from dams, and more increasingly alternative power sources such as solar and wind power. Made in the USA Learn more...
